How Much Money Can you Make as an Uber Driver in Sydney?
The golden question all new Uber Driver’s want to know is how much can you get paid as an Uber Driver. The answer to this question will vary based on these aspects – What times do you drive? What city/market do you drive in? What time of the year are you driving? etc. For this example we will focus on the market I drive in – Sydney, Australia.
Sydney is a city full of action whether its workers rushing to get their freshly brewed morning coffee or people enjoying the perks of Sydney’s amazing food and bars. It’s a city that is constantly growing and this presents a strong opportunity to make some serious money driving for Uber.
So what are the average earnings like for Uber Drivers working in Sydney?
– My average hourly rate for my HIGHEST earning week was $48/ hour.
– My average hourly rate for my LOWEST earning week was $36/hour.
Once again these rates vary because of the factors I’ve listed above but nevertheless you can see the benefits of becoming an Uber driver in a lucrative market like Sydney.

How much do UberX drivers make per ride in Sydney?
Now that we’ve discussed the average weekly Uber Driving pay in Sydney, let’s dive into how much money Uber Driver’s make per ride.
The earnings for Uber are are calculated based on these factors:
– A trip base rate (Flat $2.75)
– A rate for estimated time and distance of the route
– The demand for rides in the area -> This ultimately drives the surge fare and how much the zone will surge
– Estimated tolls, surcharges and fees (An Uber booking fee for each ride as well as the Service Fee).
Just quickly touching on the Uber Service Fee for New South Wales it is 27.5% (basically Uber’s commission!)
Your Total Earnings = (Trip Base Rate + Estimated Time & Distance Rate) – Service Fee
What I made for a standard 20-minute Uber trip in Sydney
A standard 20 minute trip I did from Kensington to Darling Point earned me $14.14.
The Gross Fare was $19.51 which is what the passenger paid and after Uber’s Service Fee deduction (27.5% of the fare) I was left with $14.14. This gives you a rough idea of how much you can make per ride as an Uber Driver in Sydney when a zone isn’t surging.
What if this Uber trip surged what would you make?
If the trip was to surge 1.5x you would make 1.5x $14.14 = $21.21
If the trip was to surge 3x you would make 3x $14.14 = $42.42
The surge is just a trip multiplier at the end of the day and a way to significantly increase your Uber Earnings per ride which will maximise how much money you make weekly driving for Uber!
